Don’t be fooled by the title of this entry, I’m not a pedophile. HOWEVER, I am OBSESSED with a video i just saw. The band is called Polysics and the song is “I My Me Mine”. This is a J-Rock, Synth-Pop band from Japan whose lyrics are in Japanese, broken English and a form of gibberish called “Space Language”. Whoa. haha but seriously, watch the video and then buy the album. This band is amazing. I’m already a huge fan of J-Rock (the japanese answer to rock and roll) but Polysics’ sound is at a level of uniqueness that is astounding me still. It lies somewhere between techno, electro pop, synth-pop, and chaos. Give it a serious try - and definitely head to youtube to check out their video (and then the japanese schoolgirls reference will make sense).

What else what else…I’m still feeling pretty obsessed with both Felix da Housecat’s “Ready to Wear” and Fischerspooner’s “Cloud”. Both older bands, but incredible new stuff. All of the bands I mentioned in my last blog can be found at a great club on the lower east side on Friday nights. If you like that type of music (electro pop-esque synthesized rockish electronica- yeah definitely just made that up) then head to The Annex on Friday nights. Excellent DJs, good company, and perfect music. I’ll be there tonight for sure.

Also, i’m trying to get myself to an Eagles of Death Metal concert. This garage clash band has written some pretty amazing tracks - “I only want you” is one of my personal faves. Along with them, i’m listening to a lot of Har Mar Superstar, Persephone’s Bees, Osaka Popstar, and the Presets. Persephone’s Bees is a little more simple sounding than i usually like but Angelina Moysov (the lead singer and creative force for the band) has put together a bunch of really poppy tracks that i’m loving. Osaka Popstar is another good one - their self titled debut album is replete with sounds and vocals from former members of the Ramones and the Misfits. So if you used to obsess over those bands, you definitely need to check Osaka Popstar out. I do seriously hope that Urban Outfitters doesn’t make trendy shirts with the band name on it the way they did with the Ramones. Ughghhghghh.

You guys also definitely need to check out my show, “The Freshmen”. It’s on mtvu.com on Uber or if you have mtvU, then check it out - it premieres every Monday. The show has something for everyone, whether it be glam rock, electro pop, hip hop, or rock and roll. We play five new videos every week and the audience’s votes determine which of the five make the rotation on mtvU. Pretty awesome. I’m definitely LOVING the show and listening to some great music that i haven’t heard before.

Alright, i’m off for the weekend - but i’ll be writing on Monday morning - so make sure you keep coming back. When school gets back in session, i’ll be writing almost every day.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon…

Kim
