I think I’ll start this blog with a detailed description of what i saw while i was down there. Here goes nothin….
a lot of people asked me if the spring breakers were hot, cool, smart, funny, etc etc etc…well…i couldn’t see all of them because many had partied so hard that they couldn’t exactly raise their faces out of the sand. but hey, the ones i did meet were a lot of fun- and i had some great times with them.
one night, i went to see Fergie perform at The City, Cancun- a big club down there. now SHE is a woman who knows how to get these spring breakers going. there were mountains of college kids piled up on each other, and amidst the crowd, there was one 40-something year old woman (she came with her daughter- ????)- the woman was sort of intense looking and dancing wildly with a small man who wore a muscle tee. then, the woman flashed the whole audience. where is her daughter now? my guess… in therapy. ANYWAY, i turned my eyes to the stage, and among the dancers was some girl making out with two guys on stage (details left out for our younger readers). at that moment, three ropes dropped from the ceiling and these basically naked girls swung down from the rafters and started throwing American Eagle Outfitters bags at the crowd. I’ve modeled for American Eagle Outfitters, so I thought this was pretty hilarious.
So, if you weren’t in Cancun… then yeah… you kinda missed out. BUT that’s ok because there is plenty of footage on mtvu.com. I saw some pretty stellar performances from Gym Class Heroes, Fergie, Fat Joe, Fabolous, The Academy Is… and Settle!! Settle is a band that won the Epitaph records deal from our Best Music On Campus contest. These guys are certainly going to blow up. Not only are they a blast to hang out with, but their single, Murder, has a great poppy rock feel, and the Spring Breakers definitely responded well.
I interviewed Fergie, Fat Joe, and Fabolous. VERY exciting and they were all SO nice and excited to be there. P.S. Fergie’s boyfriend is quite a looker. There were a few nameless mtvU co-workers that would have liked to dance with him, Spring Breaker style…. haha. check out mtvu.com to see those interviews!
