Ok so many apologies because I sort of missed the boat on writing about the Arcade Fire concerts last week… I had a busy week and now everyone has already put in their two cents and I feel that perhaps yet another entry is futile! That said, I DID have the pleasure of seeing those kids at the United Palace Theater up on 175th street. I was a virgin to the Palace Theater until the concert, and if you haven’t been to a concert there yet- I strongly suggest that you get yourself there as soon as they schedule their next event (I’m pretty sure theres nothing scheduled there for a while). For the past few months, the theater has been venue to Bjork, The National, Arcade Fire, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, among other big names and indie obsessions. The décor is gold, the ceiling high, the seats opera-esque, and the quotes on the wall… well… maybe I wouldn’t go with “profound” but they certainly are begging to be put up as high school yearbook quotes…

Back to the music, the Arcade Fire was preceded by The National, a band from Brooklyn who’s video I’ve had on The Freshmen. In concert they seem to be one part Interpol, one part Magnetic Fields. They played songs old and new, and left fans salivating from their new tracks, which will be on their newest album entitled Boxer on May 22. They were a good intro to the organized chaos that is Arcade Fire, and got the crowd both revved up enough for the main event with their quick-ish beats and high energy, but also left the audience ready for the more seasoned expertise of Arcade Fire.

Backstage I was fortunate enough to speak to one of the twins of The National (should I be embarrassed that I’m not sure which one I talked to? I’m 95% sure it was Aaron). Speaking of twin brothers, also backstage was one of my favorite classic indie trios, Blonde Redhead. Apparently, the members of Arcade Fire, Blonde Redhead, and The National are all buddies, which I like (and am envious of) A LOT. Anyway, as usual Miss Kazu Makino looked amazing, and I wanted to check the tags on all of her clothes and buy them the next day… and while Amadeo was lookin a little weathered perhaps, but still sexy in that gray haired way- they were enjoying the festivities.

This weekend, I’m having drinks with Tegan and Sara, so I’ll be writing soon with a report for you guys on how that went (I’m guessing it will go quite well, as I have only heard positive and exciting things about their personalities and stylistic aesthetics) - and I CAN’T wait to write about their new album, The Con, which is going to be released in July, but I have it in my hands!!!! I’m going to spend some cozy and quality time with it this weekend in the rain out on long island.
