yeah, like, i feel like, like, it was just, um, boring, like, you know? it was like, cliche and stuff. like, i didn’t like it. let’s try to, like, act intellectual. like, um.. like. like, you know.
… seriously? i understand wanting to create a casual atmosphere on set, but good god.. i feel like i’m listening to 14 yr old girls. james was the only one i could tolerate.
aside from that, greg hit the nail on the head up there — house of fools is incredible. listen to the “kiss the haze”, “better part of me”, or “interested”. pure gold. best band out of the five, hands down.
yea big & kid static definitely would’ve been my #2 choice.

The American Princes video/song should have won. It was the most dynamic video out of the 5 and I think the Switches have completely ripped off Supergrass. By the way, Kim, it disturbs me that you, as the host, couldn’t come up with ONE band that reminded you of the Switches. “glam-rock” and “seventies thing” don’t count. You need to be given music homework. You’re sitting there (on that amplifier) because you were on a reality TV show, not because you know your s**t…and you are now on a ‘conceptual’ limit.

I agree with Ana about the presentation of the show. I guess my main question is do the panelists get to see the videos before they film the show or what. They might be able to speak more intelligently about the different bands if they have a little bit of time to think about what they are going to say lol. I mean what’s wrong with having a show with some debt and less “reality”.

I’m sorry, I don’t know where these comments are coming from with the House of Fools thing. It’s hardly “high concept”. The video was cool, but I’ve heard hundreds of songs from indie bands that sound just like it. I was seriously bored by it. Same with Switches (seriously, that sounded like so many different bands). And at the start of that Carolina Liar song, all I thought was, “Wow, this sounds like that ‘Jerk It Out’ song.” Then it got a bit better. Sounded NOTHING like She Wants Revenge (I HATE that band). But the best band here, bar none, was Yea Big & Kid Static. It’s odd, because I listen to more rock than rap, and generally I find popular hip-hop to be more cliched, but this song and video kept me hooked the whole time. And that bridge! Awesome. I thought American Princess sounded like a slightly quirky version of The Killers (nothing like the Flaming Lips, seriously, that Kim chick knows NOTHING about the bands she talks about). All in all, I’m disappointed in how this turned out.

Thanks for the props, Ana! Sometimes the other panelists are hit or miss…we all have our off days though. As Michael points out, we don’t get to know the videos until the day of the show, which is both cool and sucky at the same time. If you follow up-and-coming music it’s pretty easy to anticipate which bands will be on at any given time and talk about them, but sometimes it’s hard to come up with comparisons on the spot.
And as for House of Fools…I gave them a second chance after one of my friends said the same thing as you guys. “My Life Before Today” isn’t their best song imo, Kiss The Haze is much more interesting…if any of you haven’t heard then check it out!
Finally, Kim and I might not get along on the show much, but she definitely knows her ?**#. I’ve seldom told her about a band that she hasn’t already heard or seen live, and vice versa she’s turned me on to plenty of awesome music that I otherwise wouldn’t have known about.
